PUEBLO, Colo.—The National Weather Service says a storm has dumped nearly 2.9 inches of rain in parts of Aurora, leading to flooding at some intersections and in low-lying areas.
Firefighters were helping stranded drivers Thursday night.
On Wednesday, nearly 2 inches of rain fell in about four hours in Pueblo, closing portions of Interstate 25. A stretch of U.S. 50 west of Rocky Ford was also temporarily closed due to heavy rain and flooding.
The Pueblo Chieftain ( ) reports that lightning set bales of hay on fire north of the city.
Some farms in the area have gotten around 5 inches of rain in the past week.
Heavy rain also fell on the farms and ranches in the state’s southeastern corner, which has been hardest hit by the drought.
