talked about his controversial verse on to Peter Rosenberg on New York’s Hot 97. Lamar’s verse on the song, which came out earlier this month, calls out a number of the biggest names in hip-hop, challenging them to up their craft. Immediately, the verse blew up on the Internet, drawing praise and outrage from fans and the hip-hop community.
“These are cats that inspire the game,” Lamar told Rosenberg about calling out everyone from Drake to ASAP Rocky and even Sean himself. “I don’t feel like they should have any ill feeling towards it.”
“Itap rap, man. People know I respect them,” Lamar continued. “The whole point of the culture is to elevate the culture at the end of the day.”
“The ignorance behind it — you can kill that noise. It will never be like that again where two coasts rival. Not on my behalf, not while I’m doing this. I think the O.G.s in the game want that competitive nature but with no bloodshed. I’m way too wise, too polished to get caught up in the hype of the media. What I am scared of is cats who are not that polished who get caught up on their Twitter responses and what their homies are saying.”
