DENVER—Denver prosecutors have dropped an assault charge against an 85-year-old man accused of hitting a parking attendant over the head with a walking cane.

The attorney for John Copeland told The Denver Post Friday ( ) that prosecutors had decided to drop the assault charge his client faced. Copeland had been charged after an incident Dec. 15 at the parking lot of a Home Depot in Denver’s Stapleton neighborhood.

Copeland was accused of hitting the parking lot monitor once because of a disagreement about Copeland’s handicap placard. The parking attendant was a 66-year-old man who volunteered for the Denver Office of Disability Rights.
