PENROSE — A woman was struck by a car and killed Friday night as she crossed Colorado 115 about 11 miles north of Penrose.
Margaret E. Mistry , 75, of Penrose died at the scene when she was hit by a Jeep Grand Cherokee at about 7:40 p.m., according to State Trooper Michael Tafoya.
Mistry reportedly had stopped her own vehicle and stepped out after she hit a deer. She was killed as she crossed the road to return to her vehicle, Tafoya reported.
The Scribe, the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs student newspaper, said Mistry, who lived in Penrose, was a senior instructor in the languages and cultures department and was teaching three Spanish courses this fall. She had also been the faculty adviser and guiding force for UCCS Radio.
