DENVER—Authorities are investigating after a pair of elk hunters found human remains in a remote part of Jefferson County.

Sheriff’s spokeswoman Jacki Kelley tells The Denver Post ( ) the hunters found the remains a few miles from Deckers at about 1:30 p.m. Saturday. The case, for now, is being handled as a homicide.

Kelley says the remains were likely there before recent floods swept through Colorado’s Front Range mountains.
