A Fort Collins officer who shot a college student who police said had a handgun has been identified.

Officer Brinton Deighton remains on paid administrative leave as the investigation into the shooting of 24-year-old Jordan Koehn, a Colorado State University, continues.

The Fort Collins Police Department identified Deighton on Tuesday in a media release.

The when officers “responded to a welfare check on a suicidal man,” police said.

Police said Koehn pulled a handgun and pointed it at himself before pointing it at officers.
