BRIGHTON, Colo.—A police officer who shot and killed a captured dog in suburban Denver has been found not guilty.

A jury acquitted Commerce City officer Robert Price of aggravated cruelty to animals on Wednesday in Brighton.

Price shot the 3-year-old pit bull mix as it was being restrained with a catch pole noose by an animal control officer last November. The dog had also been shocked with a stun gun.

Police said Price was unable to find the person responsible for the dog and that the dog remained agitated and uncontrolled.

The shooting was captured on a video taken by a neighbor, which became an important piece of evidence in the case.
