A driver died in a single-vehicle crash Wednesday morning near Golden.

A green Hyundai Sonata was westbound on West 6th Avenue about 3:30 a.m. when it drifted off the road at the West Colfax Avenue interchange, said Trooper Nate Reid, a Colorado State Patrol spokesman.

The sedan ran off the eastbound ramp onto Colfax, hit a tree and spun counter clockwise.

It then slid back across Colfax, through a median, and came to a stop in the westbound lanes of Colfax.

The driver, the only person in the car, died at the scene. He was using a seat belt at the time of the crash.

Traffic on Colfax was shut down by the incident.

An investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
