5A prep football poll sees shakeup, Palisade takes No. 1 in 3A

For the second straight week, the 5A football poll experienced a shake-up.

Valor Christian remains at the top, receiving 23 of 24 first-place votes, followed by No. 2 Fairview, the only undefeated team left in 5A. Chatfield drops fives spots to No. 7 after its 50-43 loss to Columbine. The Rebels re-enter the poll, coming in at No. 6, taking over for Grandview. Cherokee Trail had the biggest drop, falling six spots to No. 10.

In 4A, Montrose was unanimously votes as No. 1, receiving all 23 first-place votes. Monarch moves into No. 2 after its dominant win over Golden, followed by No. 3 Standley, which leapfrogged Loveland after a 31-21 win over No. 9 Montbello. Falcon dropped four spots into No. 6 after a loss to No. 5 Pine Creek. No. 8 Pueblo South and No. 10 Durango enter the poll, replacing Pueblo West and Pueblo Centennial.

With a 28-27 win over top-ranked Rifle, Palisade becomes the unanimous choice for No. 1. Coronado moves up one spot into No. 2, followed by Rifle and Silver Creek. No. 10 Roosevelt makes a return into the rankings, replacing D’Evelyn.

In 2A, Brush continues to sit at No. 1, taking all 12 first-place votes. Florence made a three-spot jump into No. 5 after defeating No. 7 Lamar. No. 10 Eaton enters the poll, taking over for Denver West.

Buena Vista holds a narrow three-point lead over Limon for the No. 1 spot in 1A. No. 8 Wray and No. 10 Lyons enter the rankings, replacing Jefferson and Meeker.

No. 1 Hoehne holds onto its spot in 8-man, followed by Dayspring Christian and Caliche. Akron falls four spots into No. 8 after losing to Caliche. Sanford makes an appearance in the poll, taking over for Granada.

Liberty/Stratton received seven of 10 first-place votes to stay No. 1. No. 2 Arickaree moves up on spot after its dominant 59-7 win over No. 5 Hi-Plains.
