Interview with Sean Haux, owner
How did you get involved in this business?
I began brewing beer and partnered with my father who recently retired after 34 years of service with the Air Force. We were looking to fill a need that the home-brewing-supply business was missing.
What distinguishes you from other businesses in your category?
We are offering a sense of community with our home brewing shop. Most home brewers go into a store, buy their supplies, leave and then go home to make their batch of beer. This is something we are looking to change and provide a new home brewing experience from beginner to advanced brewer. Our goal is to provide a store where the community is able to come and learn, as well as share their knowledge and love of beer. To accomplish this, we have opened up a patio with provided equipment for everybody to use and a space to share their beers with each other. We are offering a sense of community with our home brewing shops. Most home brewers go into a store, buy their supplies, leave and go home to make their batch of beer. This is something we are looking to change and provide a new home brewing experience. We are providing equipment that the beginning brewer can come in and use. This is not limited to just the beginner but also somebody who has been brewing for 20 years.
What do you like best about your line of work?
The best part of the job is being able to watch others expand and hone their brewing capabilities.
What is your business’ biggest challenge?
Craft beer is expanding at an incredible rate and keeping up with it is difficult. The diversity of recipes makes it tough to have all the grains, yeast, hops and other items on hand. We have to be able to meet the demand for any home brewer’s recipe. One brewer can be making a pale ale and the next might do a chocolate peanut butter stout.
Something people might be surprised to learn about you or your business:
We have an 8-year-old golden retriever that hangs out with us every day. He’s the real boss and is here to make sure we aren’t slacking off.
