Each year, TNT kicks off its NBA coverage with a high-profile commercial.
Two years ago, the network exploded the minds of fans by releasing a season-opening spot featuringstars playing together; Michael Jordan and Derrick Rose bump fists, Kobe Bryant jogs onto the court with Magic Johnson, you get the idea. For long-time basketball fans, it was pure joy.
During Tuesday’s season-opening slate of games, TNT was at it again.
Images of a not-too-distant future flash under a gravelly, prophetic-sounded voice. (Andy Garcia, is that you?) For Lakers fans, TNT’s vision is almost dystopian. Kobe announces his retirement, Phil Jackson takes a job coaching the Knicks, and Dwight Howard’s new teammate, James Harden, wins NBA MVP.
But as to who wins this year’s title? Even TNT concedes that’s anyone’s guess.
