If you’re a fan of the Strokes, you know Albert Hammond Jr. as the backbone of the band’s fuzzy, melodic garage rock. But as a solo artist, Hammond Jr.’s music is more subdued, pretty and not quite as self-assured or distortion-heavy. You still hear the distinctly Hammond Jr. guitar sound — especially in the way he meshes with bass lines — but the music is clean, particularly the vocals. Though he hasn’t released an album since 2008, Hammond Jr. is returning to Denver for a solo show at the intimate Moon Room (250-300 capacity) on Nov. 17. ($20, )

Just ahead of announcing their sophomore album, “Static,” Cults headlined The Denver Post Underground Music Showcase in July, playing a set of the old favorites from the duo’s debut. Now, returning only a few months later, Cults’ much-anticipated album is on shelves and Denver audiences can look forward to a completely new show. Louder and more intense than Cults’ debut, “Static” will make for a darker live show that Denver fans may not expect from the cute indie-pop band. Cults plays the Bluebird Theater on Nov. 20. ($18-$20, )

Winter on the Rocks returns with Jurassic 5 and Duck Sauce

Comedian Jeff Dunham, like Rodney Dangerfield, never gets any respect — in his case because he employs ventriloquist dummies that some see as pandering stereotypes. Regardless, Dunham’s a touring juggernaut, as he’ll prove with a return visit to the Budweiser Events Center on March 16. Tickets are on sale at 10 a.m. Nov. 16. ($46.50, )

Also in the stand-up world: Comedy Works favorite Kathleen Madigan will step up to the Paramount Theatre on April 4, with tickets on sale at 10 a.m. Nov. 15. It’s rare when a show at the Fillmore costs lest than $20, but KBPI’s “Low Dough Show” will feature In This Moment, Pop Evil, Devour the Day, Butcher Babies and All Hail the Yeti on Jan. 7 for only $10.67 per ticket — and that’s including service charges. Tickets are on sale at 10 a.m. Nov. 16. ()
