has been diagnosed with an operable form of lung cancer, according to .

The legendary singer-songwriter is scheduled to have surgery to remove the cancer in mid December. According to the release, it’s unrelated to his bout with .

Prine will postpone two of his tour dates to take time to recuperate from the surgery. His shows in Louisville, KY have been moved from December 13 and 14 to February 28 and March 1 respectively.

In his statement, Prine focused on the cancelled dates more than the illness. “There’s nothing I hate more than canceling shows,” he says. “For me, there’s nothing like performing. I look forward to seeing all my friends and fans in 2014. We have some great cities and venues lined up.”
