Say out loud, and fans of beautiful, low-water plants for landscapes from Wyoming into Texas and Arizona begin twitching without quite knowing why.

They mourned when the brick-and-mortar Santa Fe Greenhouses in New Mexico was sold, and to continue High Country’s mail-order business.

High Country’s 2014 introductions include a a and a new, fire-red eriogonum, or sulfur buckwheat, named bred from seed Salman gathered at the pass near Salida.

But perhaps the most unusual introduction is a High Country says the African dogtooth grass is traffic resistant, deep-rooted, dense and xeric, and even stands up to dog urine.
