CORTEZ, Colo.—A Montezuma County jail inmate has died after he was found unresponsive in his cell.
The Cortez Journal reports ( ) the man was taken to Southwest Memorial Hospital in Cortez on Friday, where he was pronounced dead.
His name wasn’t immediately released. He was described as a 47-year-old from Cortez.
Undersheriff Lynda Carter says the man had been jailed late Thursday on a charge of driving under the influence and was found unresponsive Friday morning.
Carter says a jail nurse began CPR and emergency medical technicians were summoned.
An autopsy was planned.
