PUEBLO, Colo.—The Upper Arkansas River has been added to the state list of Gold Medal Trout Waters, which are prize fishing grounds that stretch across the state.

The 102-mile gold medal stretch of the river runs from the Lake Fork, near Leadville, downstream to Parkdale just above the Royal Gorge west of Canon City.

To get the honor, a body of water must have a minimum standing trout stock.

The Upper Arkansas River was cleaned up after pollution from mining in the Leadville area shortened the life of trout downstream.

The Pueblo Chieftain reports () the Arkansas now is the longest stretch of gold medal waters in the state, bringing the Colorado total to 322 miles.
