Saturday. Rose Switzer’s lushly illustrated children’s tale “Ansel and the Great Tree” was conceived as a performance piece as much as a book, so this weekend the Lakewood Symphony’s Children and Family Concert will present that 2010 work complete with live music and stage narration — just as it was intended. The story of a small boy, a tiny village and a huge tree will come to life at 11:30 a.m. on Jan. 18, which makes the hour-long show an ideal pre- (or post-) lunch stop with the kiddos. Even better: parking is free, and tickets are only $5. The show takes place at the Lakewood Cultural Center, 470 S. Allison Parkway. Call 303-987-7845 or visit for details.
