After besting all rap competition at the Grammy Awards on Sunday, Macklemore sent the text heard round the world to Kendrick Lamar, of the best rap album award. The internet has been awash with opinions on “The Heist” and its comparisons to “good kid, m.a.a.d. city” in the past few days. Now, Kendrick Lamar has responded to the drama and it appears he’s brushing it off his shoulders.
Lamar says he doesn’t feel slighted by Macklemore’s triumph, calling the win “well deserved,”
“Itap well deserved; he did what he did, man. He went out there and hustled and grinded. Everything happens for a reason; the universe comes back around, thatap how it go.”
Kendrick was nominated for seven awards and went home empty handed; a fact that has many calling the Grammy process out of touch. For his part, Lamar is taking it all in stride, telling XXL he feels the awards should do more for the culture.
“I definitely feel like they should always have more of the culture up in there, for sure, because we definitely stand out just like any other genre. We part of the world. We part of the movement. So I think any awards, including the Grammys, should always push for more hip-hop because itap music as a whole, itap not just splitting different regions. Everything moves as far as sound and vibrations, and thatap how it goes. And we are a part of that.”
