Since releasing the debut album “Country Sleep,” in 2013, — a project of Colorado-raised musician Winston Yellen — has seen praise from Pitchfork, NPR and most recently hit the road with Lord Huron. Yellen’s heartbreaking croon, Nashville-influenced indie-country and lonesome lyrics cut deep and stick with you.

While in Denver for his second Colorado show at the Hi-Dive last Summer, Night Beds stopped into Denver’s Uneven Studio for a session with Reverb. Yellen recorded three tracks for the Mile Marker — two from “Country Sleep” and a twangy cover of Gillian Welch’s “The Way the Whole Thing Ends.”
Like the rest of “Country Sleep,” Night Beds’ Mile Marker tracks are filled with a somber openness, which Yellen said comes from growing up in Colorado Springs.
“Colorado is something that I get most of my inspiration from,” Yellen . “There’s kind of a magic there thatap kind of intangible.”
Night Beds stops at Denver’s Ogden Theatre on Feb. 21. The band is opening for Lord Huron, a likeminded and breakout indie-folk act that recently headlined the Denver Post’s Underground Music Showcase and sold out a Fillmore Auditorium show with Alt-J.
