3) DeVotchKa at Mercury Cafe — Feb 13

Itap a testament to DeVotchKa’s dynamic sound that the band can headline holiday shows on both Halloween and Valentine’s Day. After yet another successful Oct. 31 performance, the local indie band returns a few months later for an intimate run at the Mercury Cafe that began Feb. 13 and runs through on Feb. 13 to 15. Listen to DeVotchKa’s “100 Other Lovers” and “New World” to get a sense of the band’s range of love to darkness and the overlapping in between. The band has a flair for theatrics both musically and visually, which should mean good things for a holiday run during Valentine’s Day.

2) Somerset Catalog at Hi-Dive — Feb. 14

Built from members of Poet’s Row, Instant Empire, Everything Absent or Distorted, Bela Karoli and others, new Denver indie supergroup Somerset Catalog will celebrate the release of its debut EP at the Hi-Dive. With the EP streaming early on the Internet, the band has already gotten some buzz thanks to a professional sound and tight songwriting. Somerset Catalog has also been in the local music headlines as its members have become the co-owners of national indie label Misra Records. This year has started out strong for Somerset Catalog, and the Hi-Dive show on Feb. 14 is likely the first of many appearances for the band in Denver. Get ready to see the name Somerset Catalog more often.

1) Lucius at Larimer Lounge — Feb. 16

Brooklyn indie-pop band Lucius returns to Denver on Feb. 16 after releasing its debut record, “Wildewoman” on Mom + Pop in October. The band has received a significant amount of buzz coming out of SXSW and again at CMJ. A charming and grooving pop album, “Wildewoman,” is highlighted by infectious choruses that range from slow ballads to upbeat dance sing-alongs. Frontwomen and vocalists Jess Wolfe and Holly Laessig, typically dressed to match in green waistcoats exemplify the band’s catwalk style. Lucius plays the Larimer Lounge on Feb. 16.
