DENVER—The Colorado Economic Commission has granted an Academy Award-winning director from Denver more than $94,000 for a documentary about Evel Knievel.
The Denver Post reported Friday that state film commissioner Donald Zuckerman endorsed the incentives for Daniel Junge’s “Being Evel” before commissioners on Thursday. To get the money, Junge will have to show he has spent about $470,000 dollars in Colorado to make the film.
Junge, who the Post reported showed commissioners his Oscar statue while making his pitch, says he will film interviews for the movie in Denver. Zuckerman says Junge has proposed spending about $221,000 to hire 25 crew members, and the rest on other vendors.
Junge won his Oscar in 2011 for the short subject documentary “Saving Face,” which he co-directed with Pakistani director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.
