WINNER:
Jerre Stead, executive chairman of Douglas County-based information purveyor IHS Inc. Stead is a “renowned corporate turnaround artist whose résumé is a list of one business success after another,” when announcing Stead’s selection as the paper’s Business Person of the Year. But for us, Stead stood out from the rest in 2013 for his role as Gov. John Hickenlooper’s after the devastating floods in Colorado, coordinating local, state and federal efforts.
HONORABLE MENTION:
Dish Network founder Charlie Ergen, creator of commercial skipping app , which turned the Colorado billionaire into a villain in the eyes of Hollywood and advertisers, but a hero to consumers. Ergen is currently embroiled in lawsuits over bankrupt telecommunications upstart LightSquared. “Dish is perhaps the most intriguing company in the telecommunications industry,” , “and it doesn’t even offer cellphone service.”
