Over the past month, we asked Denver Post readers and our staff to help us come up with a list of people in Colorado who should be recognized for their extraordinary accomplishments or ideas that either occurred or came to fruition in 2013.

Energy
WINNER:
Energy producers Noble Energy, Encana and Anadarko, along with the Environmental Defense Fund, for reaching agreement on for oil and gas drilling that would result in major reductions in the release of pollutants and greenhouse gas emissions.
HONORABLE MENTION:
Biochemist and research fellow Mike Himmel of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, who won the organization’s
for his work on cellulase, which greatly simplified and lowered the cost of converting biomass to fuel.
