In Stapleton, Boulder Creek’s low-maintenance ranch models turn the key for buyers wavering on leaving older houses

David and Sue Abbott were figuring that someday they’d have to make a move out of their 1910 “Craftsman-wannabe” house in Park Hill – too many stairs, too much maintenance. “We need to do this in the next few years,” Sue Abbott recalls thinking – before she heard an ad on Colorado Public Radio for the low-maintenance ranch patio homes Boulder Creek Neighborhoods has brought to Conservatory Green, Stapleton’s newest neighborhood.

“I was blown away,” she said, showing off the ‘Entice’ model – a roomy ranch with a center kitchen and attractive finished space on the lower level, included in all the homes. “I brought David the next day.” Now the couple is on track to move into their new Boulder Creek home, and is making trips to Saddleback Designs in Denver’s RiNo arts district to pick from Boulder Creek’s dazzling array of finish options.

Like other baby-boom buyers, Abbott says they were choosy about making this move – doing lots of internet research, but finding nothing they liked. “We wanted a mixed-age community,” she added. “I like my privacy, but we didn’t want age restrictions; we want kids in the neighborhood.”

With their roots in nearby Park Hill, the Abbott’s story is similar to that of many of Boulder Creek’s buyers in Stapleton. “I can stay with the same grocery store,” Abbott noted, pointing to King Soopers at Stapleton’s 29th Avenue Town Center. However, these homes also reach buyers who are right-sizing from larger suburban homes, according to Paul Gortzig, sales director.

“If you’re coming out of 4,000 or 5,000 square feet, you want to keep your ability to entertain,” he said, showing off the focus on spacious kitchens in the two models. Gortzig added that with their finished lower-levels, these ranches attract some younger families – including recent buyers whose two boys will share roomy bedroom suites downstairs.

These low-maintenance, ranch patio homes are the same designs that were a runaway hit at Steel Ranch in Louisville in 2012. Meanwhile, Boulder Creek has sailed through another 30 sales here at Stapleton in the past year. Prior to releasing brand new sites in Conservatory Green earlier this month, Boulder Creek closed out their first Stapleton neighborhood at Bluff Lake in under one year. Sales professionals Elitia Schwaderer and Stephanie Alvarez note that buyers are attracted to the money-saving energy package as well as low-maintenance, main floor living.
