COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—Colorado Springs travelers will once again be able to fly directly to Phoenix.

Low cost carrier Allegiant Air announced Tuesday that it will add non-stop flights from Colorado Springs to Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport starting May 15.

Colorado Springs hasn’t had any service to Phoenix since Frontier Airlines ended its flights April 7.

The Gazette () reports that airport officials hope the new Phoenix flights and Alaska Airlines’ new service to Seattle will help stop a steep decline in passengers over the past five years.

Las Vegas-based Allegiant serves about 100 mostly small cities and vacation destinations including Florida and Hawaii.
