Human remains — a bone and a bone fragment — found in separate metro area locations have established an identity through DNA, but the discovery isn’t enough to reveal a cause of death.

“The only thing we can confirm is the identity,” said Steve Warneke, a Denver Police Department spokesman, said Friday.

The remains are those of Amy Ahonen, a in July 2011.

Ahonen’s black 2005 Jeep Liberty was found abandoned in Clear Creek Canyon along U.S. 6 in Jefferson County.

In November 2013, Wheat Ridge police gave the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office a human bone that was found along Clear Creek near Marshall Street, according to 7News. The bone was positively matched to Ahonen.

A bone fragment found in Adams County has also been matched to Ahonen.

Investigators in Denver, Jefferson and Adams counties continue to work on the case.
