LOVELAND, Colo.—Attorneys for a 23-year-old Loveland man charged with attempted murder of a peace officer want to limit what police say to the media about the case.
The Fort Collins Coloradoan reports ( ) that defense attorneys for Cody Powell on Thursday cited the elevated community interest in the case.
Powell attended the court hearing. He is accused of shooting Loveland police Officer Garret Osilka (oh-SIL’-kuh) on March 4 during a traffic stop.
Osilka survived the shooting and is recovering.
Besides attempted murder of a peace officer, Powell is charged with motor-vehicle theft, assault, using a weapon during a violent crime, possession of a dangerous weapon and possession of a weapon by a previous offender.
Powell’s next court appearance is April 10. He remains in jail on $500,000 bail.
