AUSTIN — In the wake of the car crash that killed two and injured dozens Thursday morning at SXSW 2014, members of the Colorado music scene are looking to give back to victims.

Colorado Music Party is asking for donations during its two day showcase at SXSW. Between each band — 30 in total — event organizers are asking the crowded two-stage venue to give some money for a charity that is yet to be determined.

“This is a wonderful way for us to give back to SXSW,” said Dani Grant whose local band incubator SpokesBuzz is one organization sponsoring the event.

“We woke up this morning frantically counting my chickens’ heads making sure everyone was safe,” Grant said on Thursday. “We’re lucky enough that everyone part of our showcase is safe.”

CMP, which is being held on Sixth Street in the heart of SXSW, is flying its Colorado-inspired flag at half mast today.

CMP plans to announce how much it collected and which charity will benefit from the donations on Saturday.
