Real Estate
Real Estate is the first UMS 2014 headliner that we’ve gotten wind of, and it hints at good things to come. Exploring the wispy and relaxed ranges of indie-rock, the band released its third album, “Atlas,” to good reviews early this year. Read our recent
Unknown Mortal Orchestra
For the last year, Unknown Mortal Orchestra has been touring in support of its excellent sophomore album, the fittingly named “II.” With an affinity for nostalgia-drenched vocals and scratchy psych pop, the band has ended up on some of the top U.S. music festivals within the last year.
Baths
Baths’ unconventional rhythms set him apart from most traditional electronic producers. His experimental sound draws more comparisons to Flying Lotus with its awkward, glitched out beats and jazz-like soundscapes. But Baths’ Will Wiesenfeld is unique in that his classical training shows through on nearly every track, especially on his 2013 album, “Obsidian.”
The Men
There’s something romantic about a punk band that can find its softer side. Listen to the Men’s early material from “Open Your Heart” or “Leave Home” then compare it to 2013’s “New Moon.” You’d think it’s a different band, but it’s actually just a talented group of musicians experimenting in a new sonic realm. This also means that the Men’s set at UMS will be as dynamic as you can get — alt-rock juxtaposed with thrash.
Cayucas
Cayucas will still be leaving sand in its wake when it stops in Denver for UMS 2014. The Santa Monica pop act’s 2013 release “Bigfoot” is sprayed with ocean breeze, and if you don’t believe us, grab a hammock and watch the
