continues trend of doing what she wants by releasing a remix of Beyonce’s “Flawless.” The track is called “Baddy Girl 2,” and with no response from Beyonce’s camp for “months,” the rebellious artist decided to release the track for free on her Soundcloud. It doesn’t come across as an entire remix, but some of the lyrics are interpolated through M.I.A.’s spastic production and persona.
There is a breakdown that samples Beyonce’s “Diva” from “I Am Sasha Fierce” double disc album from a few years ago. Even “Diva” is given a boost with some extra laser sounds and electronic dance drops. M.I.A. flips the “I woke up like this” sentiment with her own tongue in cheek rhymes.
The song name drops Beyonce in pretty much every verse and if you’re a fan of M.I.A. you’ll like this one. We can’t help but think “Baddy Girl 2” sounds more like a remix for “Girls,” the Major Lazer sampled track Beyonce re-worked some years ago that did nothing for her album “4.”
Although M.I.A. says she reached out to Beyonce’s camp months ago, the release of “Baddy Girl 2” comes at a crazy time for the Knowles camp. The singer’s sister Solange was caught on tape in an elevator So far neither camps have commented.
