Denver’s biggest bridge tournament of the year starts May 20 and runs through Memorial Day at the Renaissance Marriott Hotel at 3801 Quebec St. with multiple championships for all player rankings. But the bridge doesn’t end there.

Summer has a wide variety of events at both the club and tournament level.

The North American Open Pairs is a multistage competition that begins at the club level and continues through the district level, culminating next March at the Spring North American Bridge Championships in New Orleans.

These clubs will hold a variety of sectionally rated qualifying rounds during the summer. Call for details on dates and game times.

The Denver House of Cards at 1800 W. Oxford Ave, 303-781-6552.

The Denver Metro Bridge Club at 5250 Leetsdale Drive, 303-757-4774.

The Bridge Club at 1800 W. Oxford Ave., 303-300-4850.

The Castle Rock Bridge Club in the Lowell Ranch 4-H Building at 2330 South Interstate 25 Frontage Rd., 303-810-8504.

The Worldwide Bridge Contest is an unusual event where bridge players worldwide play the same hands. There is sectional rating at the local club level, and if you have a big enough game you could make the district, national or international rankings.

There will be instant matchpointing on a 100 top, with hand analysis sheets after the game to show you where you went right, your partner went wrong, or the opponents just got lucky.

The Castle Rock Bridge Club will host the event at 1 p.m. on June 7.

There will also be club championships and some charity games on tap at some of the local clubs in the city and state. Call your local club for details.

There will be tournaments as well. First up is the Durango Four Corners sectional June 6-8 at the Durango-La Plata Senior Center at 2424 Main St. in Durango.

June 6 has single-session Stratified Open Pairs at 1:30 and 7 p.m. with single-session Stratified 299’er Pairs same times. First Knockout round is at 7 p.m.

June 7 has double-session Stratified Open Pairs (single-session entries permitted) at 10 a.m and 3 p.m. with single-session Stratified 299’er Pairs and second and third Knockout rounds same times.

The tournament ends June 8 with double-session Stratified Swiss Teams commencing at 9:30 a.m.

Other tournaments include a sectional in Colorado Springs June 19-22 (different from the traditional late April dates), as well as Denver’s summer sectional July 10-13.

If summer in Colorado isn’t hot enough for you, can head for Las Vegas for the Summer North American Bridge Championships at the Las Vegas Hotel and Casino (former Hilton) July 17-27.

Colorado gets two regionals again this year, thanks to the Pikes Peak Regional in Colorado Springs Aug. 11-17.

Tournament Results: Longment held its May sectional earlier this month with these winners of top-division events.

Marilyn Eber of Denver and Judy Hummel of Colorado Springs won the first single-session Stratified Open Pairs with the second session going to En Hay and Allen Kane, both of Highlands Ranch, and third session going to Dawn Foltz of Fort Collins and Gregory Herman of Bellevue, Wash.

Double-session Stratified Open Pairs victors were Don Little of Steamboat Springs and Donald Patterson of Fort Collins.

Top bracket Knockout winners were Suzanne Jones, Michael Perlman and Gary Steiner, all of Boulder, plus Judy Randel of Buena Vista.
