Getting your player ready...

With everything that happens in the music world on a weekly basis, you couldn’t possibly be expected to keep up with it all. But don’t worry, with the Reverb Week in Playlist we’ll keep our ears to the ground for the important music news and releases of the week and compile it into the most digestible form we know: a playlist.

Even though the World Cup is in Brazil and Bonnaroo is in Tennessee, there seems to be quite a bit of music news coming out of Canada this week. Don’t worry, you find any Justin Bieber here, only the stuff that matters.

The New Pornographers release new song/announce new album

It has been four long and painful years since the last New Pornographers album “Together” was released. Neko Case has been supporting her latest solo release “The Worse Things Get, the Harder I fight, the Harder I Fight, the More I Love You” but A.C. Newman and the gang are teaming up once more to bring us “Brill Bruisers”. This week, they dropped the lead single of the same name and it has the classic New Pornos sound, only it seems to be a bit more rejuvenated. Along with the new album, the band announced a U.S. tour with The Pains of Being Pure at Heart with a stop at the Gothic Theatre on October 11.

The Unicorns are back, sort of

A decade ago Canadian rock band, the Unicorns, disbanded via an RIP message on their website. Now, after enough time for the band to seem as mythical as the creature they’re named after, it seems like they are back. Sort of. They will be opening for Arcade Fire on a few of their tour dates (two nights in California and three nights in New York) however there have been no other dates outside of those announced. The band has also not said if they are planning on releasing new music. The weirdest part? Their last release was an EP called “2014” so maybe this was their plan all along.

Morrissey cancels the rest of his tour, because obviously

Look, we’re not surprised anymore when Morrissey cancels, right? We are surprised when he doesn’t cancel a gig, or an entire tour. As usual (and fairly enough) the cancellation is due to illness. Moz hs suffered from health issues his entire life, and things happen, we understand that. However, this time he seems to be pointing fingers at his opening act Kristeen Young and blaming her for this bout of illness. Young has denied the claim, but who is really to say how he got sick. At least Denver got their this time. For the rest of America it seems that Morrissey is a light that always goes out.

Fort Collins Synth-punk band Slow Caves releases debut EP this weekend

If you haven’t heard of Fort Collins band Slow Caves yet, it won’t be long now before they become a household name in the Colorado music scene. While young, the guys in Slow Caves are by no means newbies when it comes to the music scene. They are playing an EP release show on Saturday June 14 at Hodi’s Half Note in Fort Collins, and can be caught at various events through out Colorado this summer. #sickhuh

Alt-J announce new album and tour

It seems as though everyone announced new albums this week. From New Pornos to Spoon to Brit-indie band Alt-J. Their 2012 debut “An Awesome Wave” made, dare we say it, quite a wave when it dropped. It won the 2012 Mercury prize and also won over music fans not just in England but the states as well. Within months they went from playing Denver’s Bluebird Theatre to the much larger Fillmore Auditorium down the street. Earlier this year band member Gwil Sainsbury left the band, so it will be interesting to see if this effects the sound of their sophomore release. They return to the Fillmore October 28.
