
U.S. News & World Report released is annual rankings, including the top 10 in Colorado and, among those, which achieved a national ranking.
University of Colorado Hospital and Children’s Hospital Colorado, both in Aurora, are ranked the state’s best hospital and best children’s hospital. Both hospitals are nationally ranked in nine specialty areas.
CU Hospital achieved a No. 2 ranking, shared with National Jewish Health, in pulmonology. It was ranked 15th in cancer, 18th in nephrology and 19th in gynecology. It was ranked among the top 50 in diabetes and endocrinology; gastroenterology and GI surgery; neurology and neurosurgery; and, orthopedics.
Children’s Hospital Colorado ranked fourth nationally among pediatric hospitals in diabetes and endocrinology and in neonatology; fifth in pulmonology; seventh in orthopedics; ninth in cancer; 10th in gastroenterology and GI surgery; 14th in neurology and neurosurgery; 16th in cardiology and heart surgery; and, 22nd in urology.
In Colorado, the magazine’s picks for the state’s top hospitals in 2014-15 are:
University of Colorado Hospital in Aurora
Porter Adventist Hospital in Denver, ranked 50th nationally in orthopedics
Craig Hospital in Englewood, ranked 7th nationally in rehabilitation
Medical Center of Aurora
Rose Medical Center in Denver
Denver Health Medical Center
Parker Adventist Hospital
Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center in Denver
Sky Ridge Medical Center in Lone Tree
Exempla St. Joseph Hospital in Denver
Nationwide, the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., was rated the top hospital.
This year’s 25th edition placed a greater emphasis on patient safety, doubling its assigned weight to 10 percent of each overall score. Less weight was given to reputation, as assessed through surveys. The shift, the magazine said, is toward increasingly objective measurements.
