Recruiting has been delayed for Chuk Obinnah, the talented running back at Class 5A Grandview in Aurora.

And there’s a reason …

The senior tore a posterior cruciate ligament in a knee against Overland a year ago, played through it, then had to have surgery, according to Wolves head coach John Schultz.

Hence, the wait.

“I think a lot (of (recruiters) are waiting to see him play,” Schultz said in noting interest from the lieks of Notre Dame and Washington.

At 6-foot-1, 210 pounds, Obinnah, who sat out a month last season after transferring from Regis Jesuit, is one of the state’s larger ball-carriers with skill in recent seasons. He helped the Wolves (7-5 in 2013) come within a pass completion of making the big-school semifinals. Despite missing the four games, he still ran for 1,123 yards and 11 touchdowns.

“He’s cleared to start practice, he had no contact in the spring and I think he’ll be a top senior,” Schultz said.
