The influx of money into our local elections is only becoming murkier. Your article highlights the creativity of those who seek to get around the disclosure of their spending with more complex and ambiguous means. These outside firms, not based anywhere near Colorado, have too much sway over local politics and issues. Itap time we realized that the solution does not lie in making them disclose — they will always find ways around that. We need to approach the issue of spending limits with a new urgency. Re-instituting concrete spending limits for candidates and committees alike is crucial, as well as closing as many loopholes as possible. As citizens and voters, we need to take steps to stop outside money groups in their tracks.
