LONGMONT — The early part of the season is treating Mountain View softball well as they’ve yet to play a full seven-inning game. The Lions demolished Longmont in three innings on Thursday giving them 35 runs in two games.

Leadoff hitter Tara Shadowen highlighted MVHS’ day on a 3-for-4 game with three runs and four RBI. Madi Shawver picked up three RBI of her own as everyone in the starting lineup earned at least one hit.

“They didn’t get lazy or make mistakes. They played hard the whole time and they didn’t get any bad habits, which is good with Loveland coming on Saturday,” MVHS coach Randy Felton said. “You get some confidence out of it and they didn’t get sloppy.”

WINDSOR — Roosevelt is off to a rough start to the season with back-to-back losses, the latest at the hands of Windsor thanks to a big fourth inning. The Wizards scored seven runs to pull away 8-0, leaving a late RHS rally too little.

Taylor Roth and Geana Gray combined to go 4-for-8 with three runs and four RBI for the Riders, but they got little else from the rest of the lineup. Roosevelt would score five runs in the fifth and sixth frames but failed to pull even in the seventh.

“We kept it close for a good portion of the game, (but) let it get away in the fourth, but then rallied to make it interesting in the end,” RHS coach Alan Gibson said. “Seven total runs in this league is way too many to give up, let alone seven in one inning.”

LAFAYETTE — Thompson Valley did work early and held on late to earn a victory on the road at Centaurus. The Eagles put up runs in the first five innings to seize an 8-5 lead before Centaurus attempted a comeback fueled by poor fielding by TVHS.

The Warriors scored two in the sixth and one in the seventh inning, but the late rally fell short. Jenni Barnhart led TVHS with a 2-for-4 game with three runs driven in, while pitcher Kailyn McVay aided her own cause going 3-for-3 with two RBI.

“I can’t do an entire season like this. This one was too scary,” coach Bryon Rutherford said. “They put the ball in play and we made too many errors. They hit the ball harder than we did, but luckily their catcher wasn’t as strong and we were able to steal some bases to build that lead.”
