FORT LYON, CO - AUGUST 13: Residents Joe Skelton and Linda Chadwell have a laugh at Fort Lyon homeless shelter in Fort Lyon, Colorado on August August 13, 2014. Fort Lyon is a homeless shelter far from the streets of Metro Denver and those that many residents are trying to escape. Those who developed the program say it gives residents a chance to recover without many of the temptations they experience in programs closer to home. Fort Lyon is east of La Junta and about a 3 hour drive from Denver. (Photo By Helen H. Richardson/ The Denver Post)

Re: “Controversial Fort Lyon homeless facility sends alums into world,” Aug. 20 news story.

What an upbeat story about the Fort Lyon treatment center for chronically homeless people to work and get over addictions. The garden and other jobs help residents realize they can be useful while healing from years of homelessness, alcoholism and other problems. They are able to take classes to get GEDs or associate’s degrees in order to be ready when they leave the facility.

Fort Lyon is a great project!
