Sept. 6: Participants should dress in bright colors and bring glow-in-the-dark tools to ward off “pesky aliens” in this nationwide half marathon/5K series out of Roswell, Georgia. Aug. 31: The annual run/walk 7K celebrates the start of the Denver Broncos football season. Start time is 9 a.m. for the 7K outside Gate 2 on the west side of Sports Authority Field at Mile High (closer to Federal Blvd). A Kids Fun Run (free and open to children under age 10) begins at 10:30 a.m. Every participant receives a T-shirt and finisher’s medal. A behind-the-scenes stadium tour is included, along with a post-race expo with entertainment and raffle prizes until noon in the Mile High Mountain Village. Fees vary, discounts available. Blue Run: Blue Spruce

Aug. 30: This 5K, part of the Rocky Mountain Brew Runs Series, is open to runners and walkers of all ages and levels. Start time is 10 a.m. $25, or $50 with donation to Epic Experience, which organizes outdoor adventures for individuals fighting cancer. Colorado Symphony 5K Run/Walk

Sept. 20: A kickoff for the CSO’s upcoming 2014-15 season includes a 5K and Kids Fun Run led by Dinger, the Colorado Rockies mascot. Various ensembles will perform along the route and a finish-line concert is also included. 7:45 a.m. registration and packet pickup, 8:45 a.m. Kids Fun Run, 9 a.m. 5K, 10 a.m. awards ceremony, 10:30 a.m. concert and grand prize giveaway. Fees vary, each registration includes a T-shirt and free tickets to an upcoming CSO performance (some concerts are excluded). Teams and pets welcome. Sept. 6: The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Colorado Chapter presents the 2014 Colorado Aptalis CF Cycle for Life, offering 20-, 45- and 65-mile route options through Douglas County, including Highlands Ranch, Castle Pines and Parker. 7 a.m. check-in, 8 a.m. start. Cherry Creek Schools Fitness Festival

Sept. 6: The 14th annual festival with the continuing goal of “Learn to Live Healthy” includes a 5K, 1K run/walk, field day activities and more for the entire family followed by an after-party with entertainment, children’s activities, awards and giveaways. 7:30 a.m. race-day registration, packet pick-up, fitness activities and Healthy Living EXPO opens; 8:30 a.m. run/walks begin. The Log Hill Longbuster Challenge

Sept. 7: The third annual benefit for the Ouray County Historical Society is open to bicyclists of all skill levels and tire preferences. The 16-mile time trial begins between noon and 12:15 p.m. for elite cyclists and all other riders may start when ready between 12:15 and 1:30 p.m. The course begins at the Old Schoolhouse Emporium in Ridgway and ends at the Divide Ranch and Club on Log Hill. $40. 9/11 Remembrance Run: America Goes the Distance

Sept. 6: Homefront Heroes presents the seventh annual benefit that includes a timed 5K, 10K and half-marathon, a family-friendly 5K walk and 10-mile training course. A post-race expo follows. Homefront Heroes is a nonprofit that provides support to American veterans and families and American troops serving all over the world.
