The Broncos took the first steps to address Wes Welker’s absence, adding depth at receiver Wednesday by activating Nathan Palmer from their practice squad.
Denver immediately filled the practice squad vacancy by signing former CU star Ryan Miller, an offensive guard.
Palmer was one of the Broncos’ final cuts last weekend. He showed potential in the preseason, but was a victim of a deep position. With Welker sidelined the first four games, the Broncos will likely use tight end Jacob Tamme more in the slot — or possibly in option, underneath routes — while increasing the targets to Andre Caldwell and rookie sensation Cody Latimer.
Miller played with the Broncos in the preseason. He has experience at tackle, but they are looking at him as a guard.
