Lobbyists and lawmakers mingled tonight at Club 20’s annual steak fry, which attracted water experts, county commissioners and plenty of candidates, including Republicans Cory Gardner and Bob Beauprez.

The civic and advocacy group hosts its fall meeting every year in Grand Junction, and . The consensus of those attending the dinner: Expect a barn burner Saturday night when Gardner, a congressman, takes on the Democrat he is trying to unseat, Sen. Mark Udall.

Earlier Friday, Udall’s campaign infuriated Gardner’s folks by releasing a memo saying basically here’s what Gardner will say at the debates and here’s why you shouldn’t believe him.

Beauprez, a former congressman, is scheduled to debate Democratic Gov. John Hickenlooper.

“I think it’s been years since we’ve had debates that are expected to be this exciting,” said Kathy Hall, former Mesa county commissioner and Club 20 official.

Dozens of people and even C-SPAN have asked if the debates will be televised or live streamed. It appears the answer is no on both counts.
