Broncos coach John Fox walked out of Sports Authority Field at Mile High on Sunday night happy his team won, but knowing there was a lot of work ahead.
The Broncos hung on for a .
“I thought both teams got a little gassed, but we found a way to win,” Fox explained in his postgame press conference.
He seemed pleased with his team’s overall performance as the Broncos put the embarrassment of behind them.
High on his list of positives, Fox pointed to the play of his defensive unit, especially on a couple of stands near the Indianapolis goal line, one a fourth-down stop of quarterback Andrew Luck and the other when Denver forced Indianapolis to kick a field goal.
“I think everything was involved, the coaches, the players, the game plan, the execution,” Fox said. “They’re (Colts) an explosive offense as I think they proved as the game wore on. They’ve got a great young quarterback and they’re a playoff team from a year ago.”
The play of linebacker Brandon Marshall and rookie Bradley Roby stood out to Fox. Both had seven tackles to lead the defense, and Roby deflected three passes.
“First of all, Roby is very talented,” Fox said. “That’s why he was picked where he was in the first round of the draft. The passing game is a lot more exact in the NFL and he’s done a good job studying that.”
