DENVER (AP) — Prosecutors have formally charged a Denver-area bus driver accused of driving his route while drunk.
Darren Pettee (Pet-TEE’), a contract driver for the Regional Transportation District, was arrested Sept. 1, Labor Day, after a passenger reported he ran a stop sign and was driving recklessly. He was charged Tuesday with endangering public transportation, driving under the influence and DUI per se.
According to court documents, Pettee’s blood-alcohol level was nearly three times the legal limit when he was arrested. Investigators say he told them he thought he had consumed a half gallon of vodka the day before his arrest.
Prosecutors say Pettee has had at least two prior DUI offenses. He is scheduled back in court Thursday.
