You might have heard, there once was a between the Avalanche and that hockey team from Detroit named the Red Wings. (And it still is a big rivalry, don’t let anyone try to fool you. The Pepsi Center is never more alive than when the Wings come to town still).
Next Saturday, up in Aspen, Avalanche and Red Wings alumni will face each other in a game to benefit youth hockey there. The game officially is called the Stirling Cup, an annual game in Aspen for the same cause, but this year’s figures to be the most special ever. While the names of players who are slated to attend is being kept under wraps, partially because of the possibility that some might still have to back out at the last minute, I’m told that former Wings such as Darren McCarty, Chris Chelios and Jiri Fischer have pledged to participate – and many other recognizable names could soon be committing.
On the Avs side, fans can expect to see Milan Hejduk skate again. Will Joe Sakic and Patrick Roy suit up? Not likely, not with the team in Quebec the night before for a preseason game. I haven’t heard of Claude Lemieux being part of this, but one never knows.
Tickets to attend this are very affordable: $20 for adults and $10 for kids 13 and under. But the arena in which this game will be played seats only about 500, so GET YOUR TICKETS FAST. to buy them online or over the phone with a credit card.
