Getting your player ready...

Air Force coach Troy Calhoun has been saying all along this season that his football players are a little bigger this year.

At Tuesday’s weekly news conference, he explained how he intends for the Falcons to get really, really big this week.

In anticipation of Saturday’s game against touted Boise State at Falcon Stadium, Calhoun is hoping to recruit some “players” to his squad each night. These “players” can grow as big as 1,500 pounds.

The “recruitment” got started with some free food.

Ah, but the issue for Coach Calhoun is the academy tends to frown upon this kind of behavior.

In fact, there has been a directive not to leave food out on the academy’s grounds.

The reason for this directive? There is a large bear population that roams the area.

“We’ve got bears all over the place,” Calhoun said. “We’ve been putting peanuts out on our practice field each night.”

Calhoun continued with the joke, saying he had uniforms that would fit the bears. When facing Boise State, he better hope there are a few grizzly bears in the group. And mean ones.
