COLORADO SPRINGS — Bankrupt Colorado Springs real estate developer Jannie Richardson was arrested this week on suspicion of felony theft after she allegedly persuaded an elderly, confused business associate to write checks on her behalf totaling at least $970,000, according to court documents.
Richardson was held Friday at the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center after failing to post $1 million bail. She’s scheduled to appear in court Oct. 10.
A company formed and controlled by Richardson, 60, launched development of the 153-acre Colorado Crossing residential and commercial project on Colorado Springs’ far north side in 2007.
Richardson’s company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in February 2010, and the case has been dragging out in a Denver bankruptcy court ever since.
