Some 2,000 homes in Greenwood Village are without natural gas on Friday afternoon because of an area outage, South Metro Fire Rescue said about 2 p.m.

The outage is occurring from I-225 to Orchard Road in the south to Dayton Street in the east.

“Crews have been deployed to the area to go door-to-door and perform safety checks,” Xcel said in a statement. “In order to restore service to each customer, it is required that we enter each customer location. If the system is operating properly according to that standard safety check, we will not turn off service. If we cannot enter the customer location, we will turn off natural gas service and leave a notice asking customers to call us for a relight appointment.”

The energy provider said they are assembling extra crews from throughout Colorado to relight customer appliances. Service restoration is based on when customers request an appointment

“There is no estimated restoration time,” Xcel said.
