Talks about a plan to combine Manual High School with higher-performing East High were put to rest Thursday.
Denver Public Schools sent out letters to both school communities letting them know the district is no longer considering a combined ninth-grade academy.
Manual has been attempting different reforms under different leaders for years.
Most recently, from the school in January after test scores showed the school was not increasing student’s academic performance and had instead sunk to be the lowest-performing school in the district.
The district’s most recent performance ratings listed Manual as the second-lowest high school.
Plans to increase offerings of career and technical classes as well as STEM classes — science, technology, engineering and math — are on track.
“We are going to move forward with developing this type of programming to create a small, rigorous, DPS-led neighborhood high school at Manual,” the letter to the Manual community stated.
Also, DPS is launching a national search for a “long-term leader” who can start at the school next fall.
