No, silly, the Broncos will not be staying in the same hotel they used during Super Bowl week.
The Broncos actually used two hotels that week: The Grand Hyatt in Jersey City then another out by the Newark Airport the night before they got destroyed, 43-8 by Seattle.
“I knew we wouldn’t stay at the same hotel because coach Fox is so superstitious,” said Broncos defensive tackle Terrance Knighton.
Coach John Fox wouldn’t say he’s superstitious so much as he abides by two rules: One, if it’s working, don’t change. Two, if it’s not working don’t employ S.O.S. — same ol’ stuff.
For their game Sunday against the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J., the Broncos will be leaving Friday, a day earlier than usual so the players can get better accustomed to the two-hour time difference.
Where will the Broncos stay this weekend? Why, the same hotel the Seattle Seahawks used during Super Bowl week, of course. Why wouldn’t they?
“I hate just hearing the word, ‘Seattle,”‘ Knighton said.
Demaryius deal. As Broncos fans may have heard, receiver Demaryius Thomas is in a contract year. As a potential free agent come March, there might be more money somewhere else. But nowhere else is Peyton Manning passing the ball.
“It’s not going to be like the quarterback I have now,” Thomas said. “Not every quarterback is going to be like Peyton, that’s why he has the numbers he has. Of course, I’m going to go play with somebody one day that’s not Peyton and I’m going to be fine with that.”
It might even be Denver’s Brock Osweiler.
Footnotes. This is receiver heaven, all right. In his first four seasons with the Pittsurgh Steelers, Emmanuel Sanders never had a 100-yard receiving game. He enters the game Sunday with a three-game streak of at least 100 yards (108, 149, 101). …
Backup running Juwan Thompson (knee) returned to practice Thursday on a limited basis. He is expected to play Sunday against the New York Jets. …
Rookie offensive tackle Michael Schofield missed his second consecutive practice because of a death in his family.
