In Colorado’s U.S. Senate race, incumbent Democrat Mark Udall faces Republican Challenger Cory Gardner. (AP file photos)

I’m not sure, but there must be a record for the number of campaign ads on a single topic that most Colorado voters do not put on their list of concerns. I have taken to muting Mark Udall’s ads about Cory Gardner outlawing birth control. When I talk to my women friends, this issue is not on their list.

Thatap probably because we know that no matter which candidate wins the Senate race, there will be no banning of birth control or abortion. Economic issues, costs of college education and associated debt and jobs for the kids after they graduate, immigration reform, and foreign policy are matters that worry us more. But what bothers us the most is that America seems weaker over the last few years. Putin takes Crimea, Assad crosses the red line, Iran gets closer to nuclear weapons, ISIS beheads Americans on video, and that doesn’t even count the slow economic recovery. These are the issues that candidates should be addressing.

Cory Gardner has one of the most anti-environmental in Congress. His League of Conservation Voters rating is 4 percent for the last session, with a 9 percent lifetime rating.

Meanwhile, Sen. Mark Udall has one of the best environmental voting records — 92 percent last session and 97 percent lifetime.

When choosing between protecting human health and the natural environment versus corporate profits, Gardner chooses profits. Go to the LCV website and see the list of Gardner’s votes on toxic coal ash, methane emissions, fracking safety, etc. The list is long and damning.

Gardner’s image as a smiling moderate is only a mask. His true face shows a devoted servant of corporate profits with no concern for public health and welfare.

Udall is the clear choice for any Coloradan who wants to protect Colorado’s health and beauty.

Why do we live here?
