FORT CARSON — About 500 soldiers were being kept on base at Fort Carson on Friday while authorities search for some missing government property.
Fort Carson officials say the lockdown requires the soldiers from the 1st Battalion of the 66th Armored Regiment to stay on base and remain on duty.
Officials declined to say Friday what property is missing, and they could not estimate how long the lockdown will last.
They said there is no evidence the property has been stolen.
The base near Colorado Springs has about 26,000 soldiers.
It has units from the Army, Air Force, Army Reserve and Army National Guard.
According to The Gazette in Colorado Springs, the battalion recently wrapped up a two-week training exercise.
Base officials say inventories of military equipment are taken after the exercises.
